#HoldACokeWithYourBoobsChallenge For Breast Cancer Charity Turns Out To Be A Hoax!

Posted in: , , , , ,

The #HoldACokeWithYourBoobsChallenge supposedly encourages women to post photos online with a soft drink held in their cleavage, all in the name of raising money for breast cancer charities. So far, this has led to many images showing mainly topless women or with tapes and hands barely covering their nipples, flashing their boobs on social media believing it was for charity.

However, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation said the challenge is not raising money for them and has no connection to their charity - but would happily receive donations if donations do start coming in from the challenge.

#AskHerMore Compels #Oscars Red Carpet Hosts Not To Be Sexist

Posted in: ,

The #Oscars red carpet is a whole show on its own, but the #AskHerMore hashtag on social media is asking reporters and hosts to be more open with female stars and ask them more general questions beyond what they are wearing.

CBS reports that comedian Amy Poehler started the #AskHerMore hashtag by teaming up with The Representation Project because she was tired of only hearing "Who are you wearing?" Poehler's Smart Girls Community sent a tweet eliciting questions that focused more on an actress's talent than her taste in clothing.

#HarryStylesNudesLeaked is currently trending on Twitter and millions of fans of One Directioner Harry Stlyes are going crazy. While there are some nude pics floating around on the hashtag, there is no confirmation that any of them belong to the teen sensation.

So far, the general sentiment is that the hashtag was started by a spoof account and may not be real. See some reactions from Twitter users below...

#AliveWhileBlack #CrimingWhileWhite - Hashtags Show Racist Police Double Standards

Posted in: , ,

Using the mirror hashtags, #CrimingWhileWhite and #AliveWhileBlack, both white and black Twitter users are denouncing the two recent grand jury rulings not to indict either of the two white police officers who have in recent times killed a couple of unarmed black men - Eric Garner and Michael Brown.

The mostly American users are speaking out on what they see as racial double standards in police law enforcement and the criminal justice system.

Janay Rice Inspires #WhyIStayed Stories By Beverly Gooden And Other Abused Women

Posted in: , ,

I've never been in an abusive relationship, and when I saw the video of Janay Rice being punched in the head by her then fiance, I just couldn't imagine why she went on to marry him. Beverly Gooden has been in one, and she knows what could be driving Janay Rice.

Seeing many on social media calling out Janay especially after she released a statement defending her NFL player husband, Beverly decided to change the conversation. She called on her followers to share their stories of domestic abuse with the hashtag #WhyIStayed in an effort to draw awareness to the complexities of domestic violence. She wrote on her website;

For over a year, I was physically abused by my ex-husband. When TMZ released the video of Ray Rice punching, dragging, and spitting on his wife this morning, the internet exploded with questions about her. Why didn't she leave? Why did she marry him? Why did she stay?

I can't speak for Janay Rice, but I can speak for Beverly Gooden. Why did I stay? Check out some of my reasons here. Leaving was a process, not an event. And sometimes it takes awhile to navigate through the process.

I believe in storytelling. I believe in the power of shared experience. I believe that we find strength in community. That is why I created this hashtag. I hope those tweeting using #WhyIStayed find a voice, find love, find compassion, and find hope.

Check out some of the touching tweets below. I'm happy especially with those who add #WhyIleft to show they have put the abuse and abuser behind them.

I blogged last month about plus-size fashion models posing in bikinis for an inspirational calendar [here], and now #fatkini is a new hashtag on Instagram inspired by those ladies. #Fatkini is all about bringing a positive body image message to the beach for women of all sizes.

Fat activists have been using the fatkini hashtag to show that everyone can look good in a swimsuit and more and more women are getting on board.

Posted in: , , ,

Love me, love my dog? Many of us know what we want in those we date, and when those things are missing, we'll either run far away from the potential suitor or relegate them to the friendzone like in the picture. Those on twitter decided to weigh in on the issue and there are many gems. Cheating is high on the list, breaking promises, sharing the same likes and dislikes, looks, etc. What is yours?
